Unfortunately, at first people buy KOI and then it becomes clear that there is no enough space for KOI living.

Now we are going to give you some useful advice of keeping KOI. A pond should hold not less than 3000 litres of water in the depth of 1 metre and it may be 50-200 metres cubic with the depth till 2.5 metres. Also you should have a good system of filtres in your pond which contains 10-30 % of pond's size.

So if your pond holds 15000 litres, the filter's volume should be 1500-4500. It is considered that one KOI 20 centimetres in length should live in 1000 litres of water, but to my mind KOI will feel themselves better in 3000 litres.

Those who buy expensive Japanese KOI should provide for opportunities of water heating in the pond. A lot of ponds and aquariums don't have necessary conditions for KOI keeping. Fall to thinking, KOI will grow (some of them till 90 centimetres) and it is the same as to try to place a large lorry to a garage for a passanger car. Besides, keeping KOI with fish of different species may leed to difficulties in prophylaxis of KOI deseases.

Usually the beginner has a great desire to buy KOI as soon as possible after constructing the pond. But don't hurry, water should be provided by bacteriums and micro- organisms. That's why you are to wait for some weks.

There are 13 types of carp KOI which are devided into 170 colours.
We don't recommend you to buy KOI if:

1. Among proposed KOI there are dead or KOI with different deseases.
2. KOI have flattened fins, hard breathing or lie on the bottom of the pond.
3. KOI have inflamed wounds.
4. Water smells fish or has a goam on the surface.
5. A pond is dirty.

In spring when the temperature rises till 16^oC begins KOI season.

For KOI transportation you put them into a polythene packet half-filled with water (if the period of transportation is long you should add oxygen), then put the packet into a card-board box. After it put the card-board box into the boot of your car across the movement in order fish don't hit the head when braking.

After transportation KOI home you should pay attention to the health of your fish, and if necessary use medical composition when letting fish out to the pond.

The difference between the temperature in the polythene packet and in the pond should not exceed 1 degree.
